New Macbooks Makes Your Decision Harder
by Shaun
A few weeks back, I started a series called “What Mac Are You?”. The focus of the series was to discuss all of the different types of Macs that were out there in the hope that you would be able to find the right one for you. The first post in the series focused on the Macbook and the Macbook Pro. Well, since then, Apple changed up their lineup a bit, with the introduction of the new and improved Macbook. So I decided to take a further look into these refreshed Macbooks and give you an updated look at how the Macbook now compares with the 13 inch Macbook Pro.
The Updated Macbook
There are many combinations of the updated Macbook. For the sake of ease here I will list them.
1. Option #1
2. Option #2
3. Option # 3
4. Option #4
5. Option #5
I will just list options that are comparable to the Macbook. There are other options of the Macbook Pro, but for the sake of this post I want to compare the two with similar specs.
1. Option #1
3. Option #3
As you compare the Macbook and the Macbook Pro, you have to keep in mind a couple of things. If you are what I call a Simple User, meaning that you don’t use your computer for much more than simple word processing, email, and internet, you are probably okay with a low end Macbook. Which for $1000, is a pretty good deal now that they have that 10 hr battery life.
Then if you are on the Power User end, where you plan to really use your computer a lot you are going to want to look at using a higher end Macbook Pro, where you cannot compare the Macbook to it. But most people will fall into the middle category. This group uses their computer for a wide variety of things. They may do some email, internet, word processing, some video watching, maybe some gaming, and even so photo and video editing. This is the group that I have put up prices for up top. The Macbooks and Macbook Pros all start with 4 GB of RAM and 250 GB, 320 GB, and 500 GB or hard drive space. As you can see at each option when you compare the two, the price difference is about $100. So as you look at these, if you fall into this category you have to ask yourself, is it worth spending a $100 for an all aluminum, black and backlit keyboard upgrade? The reason being is that those are the major differences between the two computers now. Being that the Macbook got a battery upgrade, the batteries are now comparable, along with the RAM and hard drive space, the only difference between the two now is the design.
So what would you choose? Are you planning on getting one or the other? Why or why not? Do you think upgrade will see the Macbooks more?
